  It is often observed that, whenever we sit for meditation, endless thoughts cross our minds, like self-criticism, self-obsession, regret, anxious worries about the future, and constant reminder of the past. 
We need to empty our minds of such negative thoughts. Meditation offers us an approach, to cultivate a level of concentration in an object such as breath, to a point of being so absorbed in it, that our mind achieves a thoughtless state. ( It takes lot of time and prctice to achieve it). still continue meditating regularly.
